THE PETANE ELECTION.
[TO THE EDITOn OF THE DAILY TELEGEAPH.] Sib,—ln trying to say a good word for Mr Tanner—who, I am sure, fully deserves the very high opinion you have formed of him —you have, unintentionally perhaps, committed an injustice towards me. Mr Tanner has doubtless large experience in the administration of local government, but permit mo to correct the inference you draw that mine is slight. Although comparatively new to what appear to me the much neglected wilds of Petane, I have, if I except a short visit to tho old country, been twenty-three years in the colony. I have been a member and for ten years chairman of the Ashley Road Board. I have also held a seat in the County Council from the time the county system was instituted until my removal to Hawke's Bay, when of course it became necessary for me to resign these positions. Your sense of fairness will, I feel sure, induco you to insert these lines iv the first issue of your paper.—l am, Sec, J. A. Cunningham. Juno 14, ISB3.
