Tho Hon. J. N. AA r ilson lectures in the AVorking Men's Club hall on "The Land Question in New Zealand" at 8 o'clock tonight. A branch of the order of the Loyal Enited Friends Avill be opened in tbe Taradale school-room at 7 o'clock this evening.
Tho Artillery parade for gun drill at the gun-shed at 7.45 this evening in undress uniform.
Rifle A'olunteer company orders are issued by Captain Blythc cancelling the company drill to-night, and informing members whoso accoutrements are not in good order that they can have them exchanged at the ordcrlv-room between 8 and 9 o'clock to-
night. The annual ploughing matches under the auspices of the Taradale aud Hastings Plouifhing Match Society take place tomorrow in a paddock at Puketapu kindly lent for the occasion by Mr John Ileslop. Entries must bo made by S.oO a.m , and the ploughing commences at 9.30. A dinner at the Greenmeadows Hotel in the evening concludes the proceedings. The members of the Chamber of Commerce hold their annual meeting at tho rooms of the Chamber to-morrow at 3 p.m.
Mr Lyndon sells by auction at his mart to-morroAV at 11 a.m., a large quantity of household furniture, ko. Messrs Banner and Liddle sell Hobart apples and pears by auction at their rooms on Friday. Mr Monteith Avill sell hacks and trap horses, chaff cutter, chick Avheat, maize, and a lot of furniture at the Horse Bazaar on Saturday. Mr Lyndon Avill sell by auction on Tuesday next, at the residence of Mrs Cooke, Shakespeare road, the Avhole of her valuable furniture and effects.
An extraordinary vacancy having arisen iv the representation of the Petane riding in the HaAvke's Bay County Council, the returning officer, Mr Hamilton, appoints Saturday June 9, as the day for the nomination of candidates, and, if necessary, Saturday, June IG, as the day for the election to fill the said vacancy. Messrs Banner and Liddle's next sale of hides, skins, tallow, and colonial produce Avill be held at their Spit stores on AVednosday, June 13. Persons having bones for sale are requested to communicate Avith Messrs KnoAvles and Co. or Mr M. R. Miller, Napier, as to quantity aud price per ton delivered. Mr Hugh Donahoehas taken out a shooting license for the game season. Messrs Knowlos and Co. arc prepared to boil down on commission fat sheep or culls, and to fellmonger the skins. The finder of a silver star brooch, lost yesterday, Avill please return same to office of this paper. Mr C. R. Taylor has a valuable business site on the main road at Hastings for sale. Mr J. AY. AndreAvs is a travelling agent for the ordinary and industrial branches of the Government Insurance Department. Mr Gregory, of the Temperance Hotel, has a good trap and horse for sale. Mr J. T. AVood, Hastings, has board for two or three respectable single men. Mr Kennedy is a travelling agent for the Government Insurance Department. Mr C. Smith Avants everyone to inspect the bargains in drapery and clothing which are being offered at the great drapery sale in Hastings-street. A dark bay mare, impounded at Farndon, Avill bo sold on the 13th June unless previously redeemed. Messrs Blythc and Co. aro clearing best quality of gentlemen's lawn tennis shoes at 12s Gd per pair.
