DEPARTURES.

May. 10—Taiaroa, s.s., for Giabome and Auckland. Passengers-Messrs Stewart and Mitchell. , 11-Southern Cross, s.s., for We.iin-ton only.

The Union Company's s.s. Southern Cross, Ciipt. Allman, arrived in the bay at 1 o'clock yesterday from Gisbovne and Auckland, and was tendered by the Boojum for mails and passengers. The Cross was berthed inside at the cattle wharf at 4 o'clock the same afternoon, where she discharged her cargo this morning, and at 10.30 a.m. took her departure for Wellington. The steamer Maori, Capt, Anderson, is to get away fo. Wairoa at 12 o'clock to-night, with caro - o and passengers. The Union steamer Taiaroa, Captain Hansby, arrived in the roads from Southern ports at about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and was at once tendered by the Boojum for mails and passengers, and by the lighters Sir Donald and Three Brothers for her cargo, some 100 tons. The following is a report of the Taiavoa's passage up the coast:—Left Oamaru at 6.30 a.m. on 7th ; left at 4.30 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton at 7.30 a.m. on the St.h ; left at 4.45 p.m., passed Cf.pe Campbell at 9 a.m. on 9th, and reached Wellington at 1.40 p.m. same day ; sailed at 6.15 p.m., and arrived at Napier as above. Experienced light northerly winds and fine wrather up to-arrival at Lyttelton, thence strong N.W. winds and heavy head sens to Wellington ; from that port fine weather ti 1 ! arrival. The outward passengers were taken off at 7 o'clock lust evening, the Taiaroa steunr.ng on he:: way for Gisborne and Auckland at 10 p.m. Messrs Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's barque Electra, Capt. Thomson, from London via the Bluff was found anchored well out in the bay by the Pania reef at daylight this morning, and the steamer Sir Donald went off with the pilot at 12.30 ii.in. to tow her into the anchorage. The Electra brings 1000 sacks of oats from the Bluff' consigned to her agents, Messrs Kinross axid Co., after discharging which she will at once commence loading produce for London. The Union Steamship Company s s.s Waihora was expected to leave at 3 o'clock this afternoon for Sydney via Northern East Coast ports, and would in that caso put in an appearance hero in good time to-morrow morning. The outward passengers are announced to leave the wharf at 4 o'clock to-iuovrow after .ioon.

The Union Steamship Company's R.s. Wairarapa, Captain Chatfield, is telegraphed us having left Auckland at 12.30 p.m. yesterday for Melbourne via Southern ports, and is due in our harbor by daylight tomorrow. She will be tendered as usual for mails unci passengers about G o'clock, and by the lighters for her cargo, some 30 tona. Tho outward passengers and mails arc announced to leave the whai-J: for this boat at 2 o'clock. The steamer Kiwi left Wellington at 5 o'clock last evening for Napier \ia the coast, and will arrive here by to-morrow morning. She is announced to steam hence for Wclliiurton at 4 o'clock to-morrow afternoon. The schooner Columbia, Captain C'omvay, is taking in a cargo of fencing posts and coal at the breastwork for Gisborne.

The bank rate of discount has been today fixed at four per cent, an increase of one per cent.
