DESPATCH FROM THE AGENT-GENERAL.-OUTBREAK OF TYPHOIDFEVER ON AN EMIGRANT SHIP.

AVellington, I his day. The Agent-General, m a despatch under date March Ist, states that he has now suspended forwarding emigrants to the colony until June, and has withdrawn the advertisements inviting applications. He mentions that the ship Oxford, bound to AVellington, which was dismasted in the Bay of Biscay, was to embark the emigrants on the 30th March. Dr. Hasard, who is in •marge of the emigrants, reports on the Gth March that typhoid fever had broken out, but there were only a few cases. A young woman named Sarah Stewart, avlio was one of the first to be attacked Avith the disease, had died, and another young woman was dangerously ill. Tho other cases arc_progressing favorably, and the doctor believed that there would be no further spread of tho disease. He attributed the outbreak to the emigrants during the last few days they were on the Oxford using water from the reserve tanks. The Agent-General instructed the company to have the tanks pumped out, aud take all precautious to prevent a recurrence of the disease. The inquiries respecting the colony, he says, arc on the increase.
