A conference of the Railway League with members of Parliament was held yesterday. Messrs Thomson, Evan Brown, Allwright, Ivcss, Holmes, O'Callaghan, M'Millau, aud Pearson, M.H.R.'s, were present. Apologies were received from eMit others, five of whom stated they were favorable to the AA r est Coast line. It was unanimously resolved, "That in the opinion of this meeting it is advisable that in consideration of the vast importance _of the proposal, from a colonial point of view, of connecting the East and AVest Coasts of the Middle Island, the sum of £180,000 set apart for the extension of tho Middle Island main trunk line northward should be diverted towards constructing a line to the AVest Coast by the route deckled on, and that this meeting recommend that all Government land for 25 miles on each side of the determined route be reserved from sale, and that the proceeds of the sale be applied towards the construction of a railway to connect Canterbury with AVestland."
