CLIVE ROAD BOARD.

The Clive Road Board met yesterday. A petition signed by more than twothirds of the ratepayers was presented in favor of the subdivision of the district into wards. The Board unanimously confirmed the resolution on that question which was passed at the last meeting, and declared tho district subdivided. The Chairman brought under the notice of the Board the necessity for the formation of the Pakowhai-road from Farndon to x.Lt? Qra-iit's It was decided, that application be made to the County Council for assistance, and the matter was referred to the new Board to deal with. The Board decided to erect a bridge on the old Clive road towards the Grange at a cost of £07. The Chairman reported that the Board had a balance of over £50 at its bankers, and about £20 yet to be received. He thought thatat this the last meeting of the Board of the old district they might congratidatc themselves that they had for several years fairly done their work, and that the roads of the present district were in fair order. He hoped that now the district was enlarged it would not be expected that the rates raised in one ward should be largely spent in another. The -Board considered tho making and metalling of the Pakowhai road as very important, and it was considered that, as the rate list will be materially affected by the rates payable on the native lands on that road, it was probable that the next Board would, if it received assistance from the County, be able to get the road properly made within the next four months. The question of rates for the coming year was left over altogether for the new Board to deal with. The valuation rolls not having been finally settled, it was impossible to say with anything like certainty what rate would be wanted for the current year. The Chairman informed the Board that the rolls would be settled on May 2nd, and he undertook to supply the Board at its meeting on the 2nd May with the valuation of the district as settled by the Reviewers' Court,
