HARBOR ACCOMMODATION AT THE PORT.
[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sir,- —Sometimes it happens that tho Union Company's steamers arc behind time, thereby causing delay in the delivery of goods to merchants, travellers, and others, and avc hear the aforsaid company often veryhardly spoken of Avhen such an occasion occurrs. But, in the name of goodness, what may any person in the Avorld not say concerning the accommodation supplied by the Harbor Board for their half-croAvn per ton, and the delay aud loss caused by non-delivery of goods owing to the disgraceful dirty muddy state of the road at the breastwork (declared a, Avharf). Yesterday tho lighters avctc prepared to land cargo (and the weather was not so bad that they should not), but several consignees refused to take delivery if their goods were in the least soiled. Others wanted their goods at any risk. Of course, it being- impossible to sort cargo out for each person in the hold of the lighter, the work of discharging could not be proceeded with, all through the want of a platform to land it on. AVill the so-called Harbor Board ever learn common sense.—lam, kc, A SUITERER. Tort Ahuriri, April 23rd, 1883.
