Sportsman (list), Chandler (list) Cock Robin (lOst), Pastime (lOst), and Tatters (lOst) also ran. Betting-—3 to 1 against Christmas, 4 to 1 against Chandler, Pastime, ' and Mount, 5 to 1 against Reform, 10 to 1 against Lady Bab. Keith declared to win with Reform. After an excellent start Mount led over the double jump opposite the stand, Sportsman second, Reform third, and tho rest tailed out. Cock Robin and Tatters baulked at the fist jump, and were afterwards out of the race. Chandler baulked at the stone wall, and repeatedley refused, and Avas not' got over till the others led by half a mile. \ At the back of the course Lady Bab led, with Pastime next, but coining doAvn the hill Sportsman had taken the lead; he, however, soon baulked, causing Pastime to do likeAvise. At the second jump from home all the horses baulked. Larry's colors first showed from the ruck, but ere the stand was reached he had fallen back. Passing the stand Jack, Buzzard, and Nonnauby were racing neck and neck, and the whole field could have been covered with a blanket, Normanby then gained a slight lead. The Poet soon came into fourth position, and in tho cutting had taken the lead, followed by Jack, Nonnanby, and Larry in the order named. This position was maintained till the home turn, when Hippodamia came with a rush, and just failed to beat The Poet by a nose, Larry a length and a half behind. Time, 2mins. 53Jsccs. All the youngsters entered faced the flag. Robina went off with the lead, but was collared and passed by A r ictoria in the cutting, the rest being close up. Betting—Even on Siesta, 3 to 1 against Fishwoman, 5 to 1 against Paramena Kalo and Hippodamia, and 10 to 1 the rest. Out of 32 entries, 23 accepted and 12 started. Siesta was the favorite. There was a difficulty at tho start, Moonstone and Kalo breaking away twice, and almost going round the course. After considerable delay the horses were got away to a poor start, Siesta as usual iv front, and Buzzard second. Coming- out of the cutting Paramena and Siesta raced neck and neck, and a fine race home ensued, Siesta eventually winning-, Hippodamia a fair second, Paramena third, Moonstone fourth, and The Poet fifth. Time, lmin.. olsecs. The totalisator had 512 subscribers, 200 on the winner, and the dividcad £2 6s. consolation handicap, Of 30 soys; distance, 1 mile Larry, Sst (T. Taylor) 1 Jack!; Sst, 31b overweight (AA r attie) .. 2 Mystery, 7st 21b (Gravestock) .. .. 3 Maori, 7st 10lb, was scratched. Nine horses started. The race being run in the dusk it could not be closely observed, but there was a very fair race, resulting as above. Larry had all the best of it, winning by four lengths from Jack.
