A CURIOUS CASE.

At the R.M. Court yesterday Thos. East sued Sergt.-Major o'Grady for the value of a silver aa .itch and gold chain, alleged by East to have been made a present to him by AVm. Wallis about an hour before lie committed suicide. AVhen the articles Avere produced at the inquest Sergt,-A.ijor O 1 Grady took possession of them on behalf of the public trustee, and gave them to the local agent for the trustee. The jury recommended that the property should be given to East, and the Coroner said, " Yes, gentlemen, your Avishes shall be carried out;" but O 1 Grady refused to giA-e the property to East. In his CA-idence the Sergt.Major said there Avere discrepancies iv East's statements. Counsel for the defence said that O"Grady AA-as the Avrong person to sue, and that Wallis must have been insane when lie made the gift. The plaintiff's counsel held that the deceased had been perfectly sane iv making the gift, aud if he was affected Avith mania of any kind it Avas merely suicidal mania. The Bench gave judgment for the plaintiff, Avith costs. The counsel for the defence Avill appeal on behalf of the Public Trustee. The case AA-as heard before two Justices of the Peace.
