(Before Captain Preece, R.M.) LUNACY.

Mary AVyatt, on remand, charged with lunacy, was discharged. George Ball, also charged Avith being a lunatic, Avas remanded for one Avcek for medical examination. ALLEGED DESERTION. George Somcrville .vas charged on the information of his Avife with haA-ing deserted his children at Napier. The case Avas adjourned sine die to enable the plaintiff to prove the defendant's ability to pay for maintenance. Frank AVilliams was similarly charged, and the hearing of the case against him was

enlarged to 7th May, the summonses not having been served. PREACH OE SLAUGHTER HOUSES ACT. Richard Nengle AA-as charged (1) with having on 30th March last slaughtered two piprs ou certain itemises at Taradale not being an abattoir aud not being a slaughter house duly licensed, and (2) Avith having slaughtered cattle intended for sale on premises not- duly licensed under the Slaughter Houses Act, 1877.

For the first offence a fine of .£2, and costs 13s, with expenses of A\itnesses £1 3s 10d., and solicitor's fee £1 Is, was imposed, or in default 14 days' imprisonment, and for the second offence a fine of ls and costs 9s, or in default 24 hours' imprisoment. LARCENY OF TREES. Duncan Campbell and John Blair, of Puketitiri, Avere charged with cutting and stealing five Matai trees, the property of the under the value of five shillings. The prisoners pleaded guilty, and were each fined 5s and costs, Avith Avitnesscs expenses £4 10s 9d, and solicitor's fee 10s Gd, or in default one week's imprisonment Avith hard labor. An information against Charles Smith charging him Avith a similar oifence aa .is dismissed. The Court then rose.
