AN EXTRAORDINARY MAN.
They are always unearthing some astonishing"prodigies in the States. The Philadelphia Record contributor the latest discoA'cry : —A man Avithout hair on any part of his body, who never had any teeth, avlio is entirely destitute of the sense of smell, and whoso "taste is just fine enough to detect a jiiece of limburgcr cheese from a stone, was exhibited to tlie physicians of the Philadelphia County Medical Society at its last meeting. AVhat' is still more astounding about the man, and upsets all the theories that have been advanced by medical men, is that the man has no pores in his skin. Heretofore it has been maintained that a man could not live Avithout a porous skin ; but the most careful examination under the microscope failed to reveal a single pore in the body of the patient. The man's name is Peter TVcndling. He Avas born in Lebanon County, Pa., forty-eight yours ago, and is iioav living in Bismarck, a small village seven miles south of Lebanon, Avith a AVifo and eight children. The latter partake of none of their father's peculiarities, except that not a child has a perfect set of teeth. Mr AVeudliiig experiences great inconvenience from las inability to perspire. The body being deprived of this meansof'eooling'becomes intensely hot, and it is necessary to pour Avater over his clothing to keep the man cool. In Avorking Avith heavy tools the man has to Avear gloves to get a firm hold. Mr AVendling is the youngest of twenty-one children, and, with the exception of the peculiarities mentioned, he has good health and has never been sick. He Avas brought to this city by Professor S. 11. Guilford, and first .shown to the students of the Philadelphia Dental College.
