AFFIRMATION IN LIEU OF OATHS BILL NOT RETROSPECTIVE. LONDON. April 12. The frozen mutton ex Dunedin has not yet been cleared. Trade is unsatisfactory in consequence of the large supplies, and the demand is feeble. The trial of the prisoner Brady continues tit Dublin. The informers Carey and Farrell Avere under examination yesterday, and repeated the evidence they gave at the Police* Court. The Crown Prosecutor
promised that corrobjrativc evidence would shortly be adduced to prove the assassinations of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke by the prisoners. The Irish National League has iioav received altogether £5000 from Australia. In a recent communication Mr Redmond reports that tho alleged connection of the League with tho Phoenix Park murders, and the recent news of dynamite conspiracies, has seriously prejudiced his mission to the colonies. In the trial of Brady at Dublin to-day the informers Carey and Farrell Avere crossexamined at length, but their previous evidence as to Bra ay's guilt avus in no Avay shaken. A photograph of "Number One" was identified in' Court to-day by Carey and Farrell. Six men, named Norman, Gallagher, AVilson, Dalton, Kirton, and Ansburghe, avlio Avere recently arrested in London, Avere again brought up at BoAV-streot Police Court to-day charged Avith being in unlawful possession of explosives, and conspiring to commit outrages. Mr Poland, in his opening speech for tho prosecution, showed that the prisoners were connected Avith AVhitehead's factory recently seized at Birmingham. In the House of Commons to-day Sir Henry James, Attorney-* f-encral, announced that the Affirmation in Lieu of Oaths Bill, Avhich avus about to be tabled, Avas only intended to apply to future members of the House, and would not be retrospective. A further portion of the Dunedin's mutton has been sold at Gljd per pound.
