WAIPAWA PUBLIC LIBRARY.

The annual meeting- of subscribers to the AVaipaAA-a Public Library and Institute was held in tho Oddfellow's' Hall, last evening. There was a fair number of subscribers present. The chair Avas taken by Mr John Harkcr.

A report and balance-sheet were presented by the committee, and Avere adopted. The balance-sheet showed that the income of the library for the past year Avas £125. AVitli tho exception of about £-1, Hiis amount had been expended. Plans of the ucav library building about to be erected Avere laid on tho table, aud met Avith the approval of those present. It is expected that the ucav premises Avill be in the hands of the subscribers in about three mouths' time. Subscriptions toAvards the building are rolling in fast, there being some £00 now lying- in the bank, besides £100 promised by the AVaipawa County Council, and about £«S0 from tho residents of the district.

The old committee Avere re-elected to carry on the affairs of the library i'or the ensuing year. A vote of thanks was passed to W. C. Smith, Esq., M.H.1.., i'or his energy in getting the House to place the sum of .-CGOOO on the estimates for library purposes.

A A'oto of thanks avus also passed to AY. Rath! lone, Esq., for his generosity in placing the building at present used as a library at the disposal of the committee free of charge.
