An accident occurred at Kaikora on Saturday Avhich has since turned out to be more serious than Avas at tho time supposed. A boy named Duncan, AAdio was playing on a straw slipped and fell to the ground, striking a piece of timber Avith his hip as he fell. His parents thought his hip was wrenched only when they examined him after the fall, aud applied homely remedies, but as the limb manifested Avorse signs, Dr Todd was called in on AVcdnesday and found that tho hip joint was broken. As it Avas decided to administer chloroform before attempting to reduce the fracture, Dr Reed was called, ill to, ' assist. The operation, which is a fare and difficult one, Avas successfully performeci yesterday (Thursday) morning, and the injured lad i& now progressiߣ favorably.
