SATURDAY'S SAILING MATCH.
The second race for Messrs P. Hayman and Co.'s trophy amongst the Hawke's Bay Sailing Club's boats, which took place on Saturday afternoon in the inner harbor proved "a most enjoyable affair, the day being fine, with a fresh easterly breeze blowing. The boats were rather late in effecting a start, but as the wind increased considerably as the afternoon advanced this proved rather a good thing-. The four principal yachts of the club competed, namely, the Wave Queen, Osprey, Resolute, and Revenge, ;md got away from the flagship well together, "the Osprey and Resolute taking and" increasing a good lead, but through steering too high a, course for the first buoy lost their advantage, and the four boats rounded it almost abreast. A long lc" , and a short leg beat then commenced for the second buoy, and after passing that for the flagship, during which the Revenge showed well to the fore, passing the flagship four minutes ahead of the Resolute, five of the Wave Queen, and fifteen of the Osprey. On tho second round the Revenge lost oTound slightly during the run down for the first buoy, but after becoming close hauled increased her lead again, and eventually arrived at the goal six minutes ahead of the Wave Queen, and seven minutes and thirty-three seconds of the Resolute, the latter* boat, however, taking second place on her time allowance. The Osprey, who was coming up well on the last round for the goal, had her arrival considerably delayed by the wind veering round deacfin her teeth just as the Resolute passed the buoy. The final match for this trophy will take place next Saturday afternoon.
