The Egyptian War Gift Exhibition will be open at the Protestant Hall to-night at 7 o'clock. Volunteer recruits of the Artillery and Rifles parade at the drill-shed to-night at the usual hour. A special excursion train leaves Hastings for Napier and intermediate stations at 8 o'clock to-night, returning at 12.30. The second day's races of the Jockey Club's autumn meeting comes off on the Hastings course to-morrow, the first race to bo started at 12.30 p.m. Special trains will run to the course, and the stores of members of the Holiday Association will be closed from 11 a.m. A general meeting of members of the Ha\vkc'sß;iy Racing Club will be held at the Masonic Hotel on Thursday evening next, The election of a Licensing Committee for the Puketapu district is fixed to be held on Friday, the 30th instant, and the nomination of candidates for same must be made at the school-room, Petanc, on Friday, the 23rd, at noon. The Railway Department, Wellington, invite tenders for the supply and delivery of 10,000 sleepers for the Napier railway. Mr Waldimar Schicrning informs the public that he has purchased the lease of Yeucll's restaurant, which will be re-opened at an early date, and hopes to merit a fair share of patronage. Messrs Blythe and Co. have men's and boys' Kaiapoi clothing in all proportions. Wood's poisoned wheat, jn-epared at the Apothecaries Hall, causes instant death to rats, mice, rabbits, or birds.
