A grand fruit banquet will be held in the Methodist Church, Carlylo-street, this evening, commencing at 8 o'clock. The brethren of the Victoria Lodge of Freemasons hold their regular monthly meeting in the Masonic Hall, Munroestreet, at 7.30 this evening. Volunteer recruits parade for drill at the drill-shed this evening at the usual hour. The bookmakers announce that they will call over the odds every evening at 9 o'clock at the Criterion Hotel. Messrs Banner and Liddlc soil at their rooms to-morrow itt 11 a.m. the stock of a country storekeeper giving up business, also the balance of a consignment of lamps, and a lot of useful household furniture. Twelve slabs of greenstone will be sold by auction to-morrow at noon at Mr Ryan's mart under distress warrant, the terms being cash. Mr jtfonteith sells 120 head of cattlo by auction at the Shamrock yards to-morrow at 1.30 p.m. Two marcs, with colt foals at foot, will be sold at the Taradale pound to-morrow if not previously redeemed. Mr John Collinge has been appointed a sub-agent of the South British Insurance Company. A special excursion train leaves Hastings lor Napier on Thursday at 8 p.m., returning at 12.30 o'clock the same night. An election of five persons to be members of the Havelock Licensing Committee will be held on Saturday, the 31st instant, and the nomination of candidates must be made by noon of Saturdaj-, 2-lth, at the Mechanics' Institute, Havelock. Messrs Hannah and Co., boot manufacturers, of Wellington and Wanganui, open premises in Hastings-street next Messrs Barnaul and Bowennan's. chemists, to-morrow, as the Hawke's Lay and Napier Cash Boot Market, with the largest, most varied, and complete stock ever seen in one establishment in this district. The Hiuvke's Bay County Council invites sealed tenders for metalling- and repairing, where required, on a list of roads in the county mentioned in advertisement. Messrs Knowles and Co. invite tenders for the purchase daily of from 150 to 200 legs of mutton at the Hikutoto boiling-down works, Clive. Messrs Hardy and Sidey. ironmongers and secdmeii, advertise the receipt of new seeds in good order. A purse containing money and a wharfinger's receipt has been lost on the Spit, and finder of same will be rewarded on leaving same at 3lr Bropby's, turncock, White road. A cream colored gelding has been impounded at Hastings, which will be sold on the 27 th instant unless redeemed. Race cards can be obtained at Caulton's Pacific Hotel, Hastings, to-morrow evening. " Sigma," Telegraph office, has a Smith American organ for sale cheap. The steamer Go-Ahead leaves for Wellington at 0 o'clock on Tlnirsday evening.
