THE LIBRARIES GRANT.
[To the Editor of the Daily Telegraph.] Sin,—Perhaps you or some of your readers will kindly give me information regarding the following subject. I sec a leader m this morning's Herald criticises tho right of libraries to make use of the Government bonus for building purposes, stating that it was given to be spent in books. I take the liberty of questioning- the grounds for such a statement, and were it not that I am told otherwise I should be led to fancy that the Hawke's Bay Herald were connected with the book-trade. I have read the Government prospectus regarding the distribution of the £6000, and" cannot find any such restriction, neither can I see that books would be of any service Avithout any place to put them for the convenience of the public, —I am, kc, Oily Gammon. March 9, 1833.
