MELBOUENE. Wednesday. Mr Service lias assumed the leadership of the Constitutional party in the Assembly. Messrs Shackell and "Ross, whose election for Eodncy and Melbourne North was expected to be declared void on the ground that they hold Government appointments, have taken their seats, and have been duly sworn. It has transpired that at a caucus of the Constitutionalists held to-day, the proposed coalition with the Liberal party was difi*utely agreed to. A hope was expressed tnat the Government would at once resign ; but, if otherwise, it was decided that a

direct vote of want of confidence should be proposed in the House at an early date. Mr Ellcry, the Government astronomer, ridicules Professor Wiggins' prediction that there will be a great storm on the 10th March. It hay been discovered by the doctors that Morley, the cricketer, has been suffering from "a fractured rib since the collision of the Peshawur on the voyage to Australia. This day. Messrs Gohlsbrough and Co. (limited) report that at their' wool sale yesterday 1800 bales were disposed of. Prices were well maintained, greasy realising as high as lUd, and scoured up to to 2s ljd.
