THE PHCENIX PARK ASSASSINS.— ANOTHER INFORMER MAKES STARTLING REVELATIONS.
A COLLIERY DISASTER IN THE UNITED STATES.
LONDON. February 17. The debate on the speech from the Throne was continued in the House of Commons to-day, the Radical and Tory leaders severely criticising the Egyptian policy of the GoA-erninent. The Tories displayed obstructive tactics during the debate, and prevented the introduction of the Affirmation in Lieu of Oaths Bill. The debate Avas adjourned until Monday. The trial of the Phoenix Park murder case Avas continued at Dublin to-day. James Carey, one of the prisoners, turned informer, and was examined at length. In the course of his CA-idence lie stated that he believed that a murder fund Avas formed from the mozicyn collected by the Land League and appropriated for that purpfj.se. He also stated that all the prisoners except tAvo Avere members of the assassins' committee, and gave evidence fully confirming the existence of an inner circle of assassins. Carey admitted that he suggested the use of knives for committing the Phoenix Park murders, and that he gave signals to seven prisoners engaged iv the murder, and announced the approach of the victims. He fiA"errcd that the chief actor in the murder Avas the prisoner Brady. He affirms, lioavever, that the operations of the assassins' committee were directed by a mysterious personage, with Avhose name he was not acquainted, and who Avas known as " Number One." These revelations have greatly increased the sensation which is felt throughout the country.

Seventy persons have been buried in a colliery in Illinois State owing to the falling-in of a portion of the roof of the workings. It has not yet been ascertained whether any of the miners have been killed. Great efforts are being made to release the imprisoned men.
