[by cable.] England v. Australia. Sydney, Saturday. The fourth international cricket match, Australia v. England, commenced here today. In the Australian team Boyle, Evans, and Midwinter took the places of Massie, Garrett. and M'Donnell. The weather in the morning was overcast and boisterous, but subsequently the sky cleared, and with the exception of a shower in the afternoon the day was fine, although the wind continued strong. Great interest is being taken in the match, and there was a large number of spectators on the ground. The Hon. Ivo B%h Avon the toss, and elected to take the wickets. Barlow and Leslie went in first. The former only made 2 before lie was caught, and the latter put together 17 and was then disposed of in a similar manner. C. T. Studd and Steele followed, and at the luncheon adjournment the former had scored 21 and the latter J, both not out. Shortly after luncheon Steele gave the field a chance and atos bndly irissed. The tAvo Cambridge men had iioav settled cloa\ii to their work, and displayed splendid cricket, punishing the Australians considerably. Studd was, hoAvever, ultimately run out after scoring 48, and without giving a single chance in Ms innings. He was folloAved by Read, caught for 11 ; Tylecote, bowled for 3 ; and Barnes, bowled for 2. Play was then suspended owing to a sliOAver of rain. On resuming Bates filled the vacancy at the Aviokets, hut only scored 9. He -was followed by Bligh, avlio was bowled for 19. G. B. Studd folloAved the captain and suffered the same fate as his brother, being run out after scoring 3. The stumps were then drawn for the day, the score standing at 2U3 for 9 wickets. Steele carried his bat, haA r ing scored 135 by brilliant hitting and strong defence. His play Avas much admired. The fielding of the Australians was very good.
