Mich icl Brosnahaii and George Goodman pleaded guilty to having been drunk at Napier on Saturday, and AA-ere each fined 5s and costs, Avith the usual altcmatvvo. AVilliam AVclsh, charged with haA'ing been drunk at Clive yesterday, pleaded not guilty. The charge, liOAveA-er, AA-as sustained, and the prisoner Avas fined 5s and costs, Avith the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. insulting language. Alfred James Avas charged, on the complaint of Air Tuck, Avith haA-ing, on the 23rd instant, in a public street at Hastings, used insulting Avoids and behaviour towards the complainant, whereby a breach of the peace might have been occasioned. Air Lascelles appeared for the plaintiff, and Air Lee for the defendant. Air Lascelles said ho had just been instructed in the case, and he feared the information Avas AA-rongly laid. The alleged offence took place within the Railway Hotel at Hastings, and not in a public street. In fact he believed it would be better if the case could be settled out of Court altogether. Air Lee said, if tho information was to be amended, lie Avould have to ask for a remand, as he Avas only prepared to defend at present Avhat took place in the street. The case Avas accordingly remanded until Monday next. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. James Cathcrall pleaded guilty to having, on the 21st of January last, make use of obscene language at Hastings, and AA-as fined 5s and costs, it being the accused's first appearance in Court during a residence (as he said) of "thirty years in tl_ colon.-." A WORSE CASE. Frank ' Hyde, similarly charged, also pleaded giulty. Sergeant Burtensha.vsaid in this case the offence avus very aggravated, and he would like the Court to hear tho CA-idence. Henry l_awden gave CA-idence as to the language made use of, AA'hich was of a most disgusting character, and was moreover delivered in the presence of a lady. The Court said the language made use of by the defendant in this case AA-as filthy and utterly incxcusiblo : he .vould therefore be fined £2, and costs lis, together AA'ith expenses of Avitnesses (two) ..1 4s, or in default 14 days' imprisonment Avith hard labor. BRU-'K AND I-ISORDEHLY. Robert Sands pleaded guilty to haA'ing been drunk and disorderly at Hastings on the 21st instant, and Avas fined £1, and costs 9s, also Avitness's expenses 10s, or in default to bo imprisoned and kept at hard labor for three days. The Court then rose.
