This day. Alexander AVells, a seaman on board the Annie Hill, Avhile climbing up a cliff at Lyttelton yesterday, fell cloavii on to the rocks and receiA-ed dangerous injuries. The Alaori Ratima, charged AA-ith murder at Kaikoura, has been lodged in Lyttelton gaol to await his trial at tho next session of the Suj.reme Court. The folloAving is a list of the A'olunteers SAA-oru in in Canterbury under theneAV regulations:—Lyttelton Navals, 03; Artillery, Christcliurch and Timaru, 106; infantry. 312, total, 481. John Epps, a Avorkman at the AVaiau bridge, fell off and avus droAAiicd on Friday evening. A party of men ran some distance along the bank, but coidd not save him. The body was found on Saturday. Epps ay as a good s.vinimer, and had received, a medal from the Humane Society for saving life, but in falling he must have struck his head against some AvoocLvork and AA'as probably stunned. Air E. J. Lee is in the field for Sehvyn. Air A. Saunders and Air R. Lockhead are also mentioned as possible candidates.
