A recurrence of an emergency resembling the late rebellion is proA-ided for by a clause excepting- the measures for the defence of Egypt from the above restrictions. Every poAver shall be bound to bear the cost of the immediate repair of any damage its A-cssels may cause in the canal, unci Egypt shall take all measures hilts power to' enforce the conditions imposed upon the ships of belligerent Powers using the canal. No fortifications shall be erected on tho canal' or in the vicinity.
