WASTE LANDS BOARD.
Friday, January, 26. The Board met at 11 a.m. Present—The Cldef Commissioner (in the chair), Captain Russell, Mr F. Sutton, M.H.R., aud Mr R. Harding. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read:— From the Solicitor - General, giving his opinion that the Board had power to declare open for application lands that had been offered for sale by auction and had not been sold.—lt was decided that under section 44 of the Land Act, 1577, certain lands that had. "been offered at auction should be open for sale on application at the same area and prices at which they had been offered. From A. D. Milne, requesting that (a lease for a number of years of the laud at Mohaka at present held by him under a pasture occupation license for 14 years from 14th July, 1869, might be granted 'to him as compensation for improvement guaranteed. —It was ordered that Mr Milne be informed that the Board had no power to grant his request, and that his solicitor had applied for an extension of his license within the provisions of the Hawkc's Bay Renewal of Licenses Act, 1870, which would be granted if desired at the expiration of the present license. From R. E. Grinlinton, desiring to pay balance on section 24, Victoria Special Settlement,—Agreed to. ' v LICENSES. Licenses were ordered to be issued in respect of the folloAving applications to take up land on deferred payments:—No. 93, Paul Jones, section '27, block XIII., Tahoraite ; No. 94, Alfred Palmountain, section 5, block IX., Woodville. AUCTIONEER. It' was resolved that Mr Parker be appointed to act as auctioneer at Crown laud sales in the event of the Commissioner being absent. The Board then adjourned.
