SERIOUS BUSH FIRES IN THE NORTH OF AUCKLAND. A LITTLE GIRL LOSES HER LIFE, AND GREAT DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY.
Auckland, this day. Extensive bush fires burning in the north are alleged to have been originated by Maoris and tramps for gum-digging purposes. Some settlers' houses have been burned down, and damage to the value of £20,000 has been done, and a large extent of valuable Government bush destroyed. The Union Sash and Door Company, Messrs Brown and Campbell, and others are also heavy losers by one of these fires. A daughter of Mr Vincent Tolkolp has lost her life.
