WAIROA.
The election for a School Committee took place last night. There was a good attendance of householders, eight being nominated, and a ballot was taken with the following result:—G. Flint, 42; Rev. P. J. Riddle, 39 ;H. J. Williams, 31; G. Mayo, 30 ;J. W. Sargisson, 27; E. C. Porter, 20 ;J. T. Large, 17; T. Poole, 7. The first seven were elected. At the meeting subsequently held there was a contest for the chairmanship of the committee. Mr Flint, the late chairman, and Mr H. J. Williams, were proposed. Mr Large, as chairman pro tern, gave his deciding vote in faA'or of Mr Williams on the ground that it Avas not desirable that anyone should hold such an electiA'e office for more than two years.
