Christchukc-h, Yesterday. The Court was occupied all day with hearing the evidence for the prosecution in the case of R. Paxton v. G. G. Stead an action for slander, in which the plamtift claimed £5000 damages. Paxton was formerly Stead's confidential clerk, but is noAvonc of the grain firm of Roberts, Paxton Plaintiff alleged that Stead had made statements to his (plaintiff's) partner Roberts in order to prejudice the latter against him and induce a dissolution of the partnership.
