Prince Bismarck has proposed that the German Government should expend a sum of GOO, 000 marks iv relieving the sufferers by the recent inundations. 'it has been decided by the Suez Canal Company to expend the sum of 27,000,000fr. in widening and otlierwi.se improving the canal. The works are to be commenced at once. The Czar of Russia has dismissed the secret body guard by which he had been surrounded, and has discontinued many precautions which he has hitherto taken to frustrated the designs of Nihilists. The Russian advance into Central Asia is still strenuously opposed by the inhabitants, and it is now' reported that the people of Gerva have murdered a Russian surveyor, and three Cossacks in his employ. Sir Said Samuel, the Agent-General of New South AValcs, has been presented with a handsome souvenir by colonists and others resident in London as a mark of their satisfaction on his recent elevation to the knighthood. The produce of the French vintage of ISB2 shows a decrease on that of the previous year by 3,000,000 hectalires. Since the death of the late M. Ganibetta dissscusions have sprung up in the ranks of his followers, and it is behoved that a general disruption of the party is likely to take place. It is reported that the English Government are about to despatch reinforcements of troops to Natal in view of the general unsettled state of South Africa. A Socialist agitation of an alarming character has sprung up in Rome, with ramifications throughout Italy. The Government have determined to take stringent measures for the suppression of the organisation, and wholesale arrests are being made in consequence. Tho -\\Hdo\v of the late General Chanzy has been granted an annual pension of 1200 m francs by the French Government. A number of laborers in Connaught have applied for Government aid to enable them to emigrate to Queensland.
