DUNEDIN.

This day. The Presbyterian Synod spent six hours on Thursday night over the deceased wife's sister question. They eventually decided to adopt the decision of the Presbyteries, namely to let the question stand exactly as it is. 'Yesterday the \uiion of the churches was considered,' the principal speeches in favor being delivered by the Revs. Cairns and Douglas. The Rev. Mr Banncrman's amendment shelving , the question was negatived by 41 to 14, and the Rev. Mr Moricc's motion affirming the union, and reappointing the committee to carry on negotiations, was carried by 45 to 21. The result was received with prolonged cheering. At a meeting of the shareholders of the New Zealand Pottery Company at Milton much regret was expressed at the absolute necessity of winding-up, and it was hoped that a new company might be started, especially as all the early difficulties have been surmounted and a number of skilled workmen have been brought to the country. There has been a loss of £3042 lGs Gd. The banquet to Mr Fergus, M.H.R., at Queenstown on Thursday night was a great success.. The Hon. Mr Rolleston was amongst those present. He said, in the course of a speech in response to a toast, that if lac had been opposed to the Otago Central railway before, he was now convinced that it was a colonial work. fie believed now that in this line the colony possessed a valuable asset, requiring only judicious administration.
