HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

•■- The Napier Hospital Committee met in V-- "* the Provincial Council Chamber this afternoon at 2.30, His Worship the Mayor in the chair. The minutes of the former meeting having been read and confirmed, Mr J. A. Smith proposed Dr. Spencer (the Mayor) as chairman for the ensuing year. The motion was not seconded. Mr M. R. Miller said it was a well known fact that the Government was more easily approached through a member of the House of Representatives than any other channel, and he had therefore much pleasure in proposing that Mr F. Sutton, M.H.R., be elected chairman of the Committee. Mr E. W. Knowles seconded the motion, which was carried nem con. Mr Sutton in taking the chair, thanked the meeting for the confidence reposed in him, and said he would use his utmost endeavors -with the Government to have the affairs of the Hospital placed on a satisfactory and sound basis. Of course during his absence at the House it would be necessary to appoint some gentleman to fill his place, but that matter need not necessarily be considered at present. On the motion of Mr M. R, Miller, Mr E. W. Knowles was appointed treasurer, Mr H. Williams, who was proposed by Mr Knowles, having refused to allow himself to be nominated for the office. [Left sitting.]
