SPECIAL MEETING.
A. special meeting was afterwards held for the purpose of adopting certain alterations in bye-law No. 19 relating to building regulations. Cr. Wall moved a further alteration in in respect to No. 1 district, to the effect that the fronts of shops or other buildings might be of wood when abutting on the streets. When the clause ns so amended was put, Cr. Mouteith moved the excision of the words "when abutting on the streets," contending that there was no justifiable reason for requiring that the front of a building erected back from a street should be of other material than that of a building that abutted on a street. Cr. Wall held that when a building was back from the street the front of such building was more liable' to be ignited from a fire on adjoining premises than when the front abutted on a street. He contended, moreover, that in No. 1 district the buildings should be all in line, as by building back from the street there was much uusightlincss. After much discussion Cr. Monteith's amendment was carried, and the words "when abutting on the streets" were struck out. Cr. Wall then moved that the whole of the clause in the bye-law relating to No. 1 district be struck out, and that the regulations for No. 2 district be the regulations for the whole of the borough. The motion was seconded by Cr. Price, but was negatived on the voices. This concluded the business.
