The graud complimentary ballad concert tendered to Mr T. R. Gilpin by the amateurs of Napier prior to his departure will be given in the Theatre Royal to-night, commencing at 8 o'clock. The members of the Napier Fire Brigade and the Fire Police meet at the Napier station to-night, the former at 8 o'clock and the latter at 7.45, to meet the fire brigade delegates. The new Masonic Lodge at Waipawa will be dedicated at 3 p.m. to-morrow, and the regular meeting of the brethren of Aberconi Lodge takes place in the evening at 7.30., when the W.M. will be installed. Tenders for erecting and levelling and preparing ground on the section adjoining the Napier district school will be received up to 5 p.m. to-morrow. A banquet will be given to the United Fire Brigade Association delegates to-mor-row evening, tickets for which can be obtained from Messrs Waterworth, Wilkic, and Cottrell. In connection with the district meeting a temperance meeting will be held in the United Methodist Free Church to-morrow evening, and on Friday a lecture on "Revelation in the light of To-day " will | bo delivered by tho Rev. J. White.
St. John's Band of Hope meets to-morrow evening, when Mr Ashton will deliver an •address. Owing to the resignation of Mr John Bennett an extraordinary vacancy in the representation of the Puketapu riding in the Hawke's Bay County Council has occurred, and the returning officer. Mr G. A. Oliver, appoints Wednesday, the 2-1 th instant, as the day for the nomination of candidates, and Wednesday, February 7th, as the day for the election to fill said vacancy. Mr Archibald Forbes, the famous war correspondent, delivers a course of four lectures in the Theatre Royal, commencing ou Monday next. Duties at the Marist Brothers' school are to be resumed on Monday next. The Chief Surveyor, Mr Horace Baker, invites tenders for the construction of two sections of the Wairoa-Gisbome road. Messrs Banner and Liddle hold a sale of furniture, just received from England, at their rooms'on Thursday, 25th instant, and catalogues will be issued in a. few days. Mr "Ben Smith, architect, invites tenders for the erection of a shop and dwelling at Waipawa. Further additions of sheep for disposal at the ram fair next Wednesday are made to Mr M. R, Miller's list. A bay gelding has been impounded at Famdon, and, unless redeemed, will be sold on the 31st instant. Messrs Hardy and Sidey, ironmongers, make an addition to their advertisement.^ The correct brand of the. bay g-cldinij impounded at Taradale on the 12th instant is inserted. Woods' Trico Saron Fluid is a valuable preparation for increasing the growth of the hair. A number of new advertisements will be found in our "Wanted" column.
