MAGNIFICENT GIFT TO LOCAL HOSPITALS.

The long outstanding dispute between the trustees of the late Karaitiana and Mr Douglas M'Lean concerning theNgatarawa blocks has been settled this morning. The exact terms of purchase have not transpired, but this we have ascertained on the best authority,—that there being a difference of £1000 between the amount offered and that demanded, Mr Sheehan proposed and Mr D. M'Lean cordially agreed that the sum in question should be given to the Napier and Waipukurau Hospitals, £500 each, for the endowment and maintenance of a Maori - - ward to be called the M'Lean and Karaitiana Ward. This must be regarded as the most satisfactory and generous arrangement that could possibly be arrived at, and we congratulate both parties to the dispute upon the termination of so long standing a matter.
