This day. The hearing of the Papakaio murder case is fixed for the 22nd instant. Massey is still in custody, being unable so find bail. It is understood that the police have found some important documentary evidence at his house. James Rodgcrs, stationmaster at Burnside, died suddenly last night. As the new Supreme Court Act permits solicitors to do Avhat Avas hitherto expressly prohibited, namely—carry on actions on behalf of clients ou commission, or on a percentage of the sum recovered, tho Otago La.AY Society have decided to apply the principle generally to other business, and have passed the following resolution: — "The Council of the LaAv Society recognise the following as part of the business of a solicitor : 1. Negotiating loans on commission. 2. Buying and selling properties on commission. 3. Collecting of rents, interests, and other moneys on commission. 4, Management of companies, including insurance companies. 5. Land and estate agency business generally." The Otago Refrigerating Company have arranged Avith the New Zealand Shipping Company for a steamer to load at Port Chalmers in April and June, each vessel to take 9000 carcases. There are already applications for 34,000 sheep, aud it is expected that before the list is closed the total applications Avill not be far short of 50,000.
