THE NEW GOVERNOR OF GIBRALTAR.
THE NEW COLONIAL SECRETARY. CETEWAYO'S ESCORT. DISAFFECTION IN THE RUSSIAN ARMY. ITALY AND AUSTRIA. REVOLT IN ARABIA. LONDON. December 2-5. The appointment of Sir John Adye, who acted as chief of Lord Wolseley's stall during - the recent campaign in Egypt, to the Governorship of Gibraltar is confirmed. Lord Napier, of Magdala, who has held the post since 1870, retires at the end of the year, and Sir John Adyc's occupancy of the post will date from the Ist of January. The acceptance by Lord Derby of the position of Secretary of State for the Colonies has given general satisfaction, and a deputation of colonists at present residing in London is to wait upon him at an early date, with a view of expressing their congratulations on Ids accession to office. It is stated that the British troops which are to act as an escort to Cetewayo, on the occasion of liis formal restoration to the kinjrship of Zulnhuid, have been deputed to attend liim for the purpose of annexing- .-ome territory in the neighborhood of Natal to that colony. The Russian troops stationed atPavlognid having shown symptoms of disaifeution to the reigning Czar, it is probable that several regiments Avill be disbanded, as the revolutionary feeling is believed to be very general in their ranks. The recent execution of Oberdank, for an alleged attempt uj>ou the life of the Emperor of Austria, at Trieste, has created a very bitter feeling between Italy and Austria, which has been enhanced by the Emperor's abandoning his intention of \isiting the King of Italy at Rome. The hostile feeling which has for some time past been displayed in Arabia towards the Ottoman Caliphate has at last issiuned the form of an open revolt. The Porte is organising measures for the assertion of his authority, and troops will be at once despatched to the locality of the rising. [Renter's Telegrams.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.
