ADELAIDE.
January ■">. The steamship A'ictoria. 71') tons, owned by the Adelaide Steamship Company came into collision to-day with the ship Gainsborough, S7-1 tons. The latter sustained severe damage. His Excellency Sir F. D. Jervois was entertained at luncheon here to-day prior to his departure for Now Zealand. In replying to the toast of his health he dwelt upon the prospects of the colony in an able and exhaustive speech, aud expressed confidence iii its future development. This day. At the public luncheon to Sir AY. Jervois yesterday one hundred and eighty persons were present, including Ministers, Judges, and the leading citizens. His Excellency, in his speech, urged caution in borrowing. He favored immigration, and advocated the federation of the Australian colonies.
