NEW PLYMOUTH.
This day. Tho question of the Government attempting to make over a reserve within the limits of the borough, about fifty acres in extent, to the Taranaki Jockey Club, against the Avishes of the Borough Council, is'ogain agitating the public. A meeting was"held by the club ou AVednesday, when a resolution Avas passed by the club agreeing to accept the lease of the land for fortytwo years at a rental of £75 per annum free of rates. The Borough Council met last evening, when the matter Avas discussed, and the following resolutions were passed : —That the Council use every legitimate means in its poAver to prevent the diversion of the reserve now used as a racecourse from the uses for which it was originally granted to the Superintendent of the Province, nauiely—the improvement of the streets and town of Ncav Plymouth, and that the Government be furnished with a copy of this resolution, Avith a request that the'terms of the iioav grant be in keeping with the original grant.
