CHRISTCHURCH.
This day. Delegates from the various educational associations throughout the colony have been chosen to attend a meeting to be held at the Normal School to-day, when the neeessarv steps will be taken towards the formation of a New Zealand Educational Institute. Messrs Young and Cole (Wellington) and Worthington and Adams (Auckland) arrived yesterday, and Dr. McDonald, and Messrs Park', Fitzgerald, and White from Dunedin, were expected by express train last night. The Canterbury teachers will be represented by the office-bears of the educational institute of North Canterbury. Mr Garr (Invercargill), Mr Ligertwood (Timaru'. and delegates from other branch associations throughout the colony are also expected to attend. The proceedings will be terminated by a dinner to be given te) the visitors at the Royal Hotel on Thursday evening.
The body of the man who was killed on the railway wa.s identified yesterday by his wife and daughter as that of James Thompson, a, farmer of St. Albans. It is stated that Thompson had sold his property, and had made arrangements to proceed to Invercargill. The rainfall for the yearwas 2"r28 inches, the highest being in January last, LOO inches, most of which fell in two days during one storm.
The body of the man Taylor, who wa.s drowned at Sumner, was found on the Nov,- Brighton beach on Sunday almost unrecognisable.
