CRICKET.

The cricket match at Petanc yesterday bei ween the Napier Cricket Club and the Scinde Rovers resulted in a win for the Napier Club by 5 wickets and 2 runs. (By Caulk.) Australians v. Englishmen. AIET.nouRNE, December 30. The cricket match between the Hon. Ivo Bligh's eleven and the Australian team which recently returned from England was commenced here to-day. There was a very large attendance of spectators, by whom the greatest interest, was taken in the game. The'weather was very fine, and the ground being in good order, a capital wicket was pitched. The Australians won the toss and went in first, Alassie and Bannerman being the first to face the English bowling. The former batsman failed to make any stand, and was caught and bowled when he had only scored 1. On AEurdoch joining Bannerman runs came fast, both players hitting freely. Bannerman was at. length stumped when he had contributed a well played 30. Koran followed, but. was caught without scoring, and Afurdoch was bowled with 48 to his credit, M'Donnell and Gif fen then made a good stand for 43 and 30 rcpeetively. Blackburn obtained a well earned 25, but. Ponner particularly distinguished himself, having when the stumps were drawn contributed GO, not out. His innings was a very brilliant one, his hitting being,splendid. He' obtained four fives. ""At the close of the day's piny the Australians bad scored 251 fi'ir 7 wickets. The fielding of the English players was excellent, though several difficult chances were missed. January 1. The cricket match between English and Australian teams was resumed to-day. The Australians continued their first, innings, which closed for a total of 291 runs. The weather was showery during the day, but the attendance at the match was enormous.
