The Suez mail, which arrived by the Ringarooma last night, waa at once despatched northwards by special train. Among the passengers "by the Ringarooma is Detective Kirby, who has in custody the Timaru defaulter Miebael Ryan, against whom there are eight separate charges of defalcation. In the Supreme Court yesterday Cuthbert Cowan, a runbolder at Banmore, was sued for seduction by the father of his servant, Christina Hemmingeen, a girl of 16 years. The damages were laid at £600. The girl alleged to have been seduced by the defendant in his house gave birth to a child in July last. The defence was a total denial of the seduction, and an allegation that a young man who had been seen with the girl on several occasions was the.father of the child. The jury, alter a long absence, returned a verdict for the plaintift, damages £100.
