WAIROA.

(from otje own correspondent.) December 13, 1882

The Wairoa school concert takes place on the 18th instead of on the 20tb, and the Fraeertown concert on the latter date.

The Mohaka races take place on the 26th instant, the Frasertown Caledonian sports on New Year's day, and the Wairoa County Jockey Club meeting on the Ilth June.

The Guardian states that the Matakuhia and Waipuwa blocks, at the back of the Ruakifuri, are about to be opened up by the native owners, the Governmgnt surveying the land and taking a portion in payment thereof. The Frasertown School Committee held a meeting not long ago, and gravely proposed, seconded, and carried a resolution " adopting the Inspector's report on the local school." Not bad that for a local body out of Yankee-land. The same committee baa now got up a quarrel with the teacher for closing the school without leave, to go and play cricket with the Napier men on a certain day. Instead of passing a vote of censure the committee appealed to Ca:sar-~the Education Board, I mean, and it is quite on the cards tbe'Board. will tell the committee they could have settled the matter themselves.
