DUNEDIN.

December 8

The Sorrento, with 5838 sheep, 422.3 bales of wool, 82 bales of skins, 5798 sacks of grain, 139 casks of tallow, and 13,173 ounces of gold, took her departure yesterday for London via the Suez Canal. The total value of her cargo is £130,000.

Mr Caldwell, head gaoler of Dunedin, who it was announced recently would be shifted to Auckland, has received twelve months' leave of absence on full pay.

Mr Bracken, M.H.R., for Dunedin Central, addressed his constituents Inst night. There were 600 or 700 people present. At the close of his address a unanimous vote of confidence was carried.
