Auckland v Wellington.

Wellington, December 7. A cricket match, Auckland v. Wellington, was commenced to-day. The weather as fine, with a light southerly breeze. A good wicket was prepared. Wellington won the toss and elected to go in. Brown and Alpe were the first men, and with the score at 13 Brown skied one of Gill's which was taken by Dufaur, the wicket-keeper. 1—7—13. Heenan followed, and after scoring two was caught by Gill off Mb own bowling. 2—2—20. Firth (the captain) was the next man, but, after a dozen had been added, Alpe played one of Lankbam's back to him, and had tojetire. 3—20 — 32. Lynch was the next man, and with 40 up Lankham was changed to the north end and relieved Gill. Buckland taking the south end. The change was successful, for in Lankbam's second over Lynch, in playing back, hit his wicket, 4 — 11—55. The adjournment for lunch here took place. Auckland v. Patea. Patea, December 8. A cricket match, Auckland v. Patea, was concluded yesterday, with an easy victory for the local team. Auckland collapsed suddenly, the last five wickets falling without an addition to the score. The totals are —Auckland, first innings 40, second 55 ; Patea, first innings 50, and second 47, with six wickets to fall. England v. Maitland. Sydney, December 8. A cricket match between the English eleven and twenty-two of Maitland has resulted in a victory for the Englishmen in one innings with 15 runs to spare. The following were the scores:—English, first innings, 155 ; Maitland, first 49, second 91.
