R.M. COURT, WAIPAWA.

This Dat. (Before Captain Preece, R.M.) AFFILIATION. Annie Elliott sued John Thomas Harvey, praying for an order to adjudge defendant the father of an illegitimate child and to cause him to contribute to its support. Mr Guy appeared for the complainant. Harvey did not appear. The evidence showed that the parties to the suit kept company in Napier from, the 24th May, 1881, to the 18th July, 1882, when the complainant had to leave ber situation as a general servant and return to her father's bouse at the Waipawa bush. Tbe defendant corresponded, and in one letter sent £2. On the 3rd November a child was born, of which complainant stated Harvey to be the father. Harvey was a cabdriver for Mr D. Cotton, and frequently stated that he would marry Elliott. He had not sent any money to pay the expenses of confinement, nor did he now correspond with complainant. The Bench adjudged Harvey to be the father of the child, and ordered him to pay £5 expenses of confinement, and 5s per week for the support of the ohild till she arrives at the age of 14, also 7s costs of Court. CIVIL CASES. Berry v. Franklin.—Mr Guy appeared for plaintiff, and requested the case to be adjourned to next Court day, which was granted. Hcrimgeour v. Westmoreland.—Judgment confessed for amount claimed, with costs amounting in all to £8 13s. There were several other cases, but all were settled out of Court.
