December 5 The Chinese residents of Christchurch have subsciibed nearly £60 towards the destitute patient's relief fund at the hospital. At the Magistrate's Court this morning Samuel Grindrov was fined £1 for breaking a pane of glass at one of the new fire alarm boxes in the city and giviog a false alarm of fire last night. The insurances on the Selina, from Lyttelton to the Continent, reported foundered, are—New Zealand office, £2,500; Standard, £2000; South British, £4000; Swiss Llyod's £2000. A lad 15 years of age, named Clark, was brought before the R.M. Court yesterday for trying to cut his throat. Hβ was trembling violently, and had to to be supported into Court. Seeing his state the R.M. remanded him for medical treatment. A Mrs Hazlehurst, residing in Prebbleton, about twelve miles from Christchurch, was knocked down by a calf about a week ago as she was lifting its tether peg, and received a slight injury to the thumb. Simple as it seemed the wound developed lock-jaw, and she died on Sunday night in the hospital.
