NAPIER HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

The Committee met at 2.30 p.m
Present—His Worship the Mayor (in tbe chair), Messrs J. A. Smitb, J. N. Williams, Douglas M'Lean, C. L. Margoliouth, C. B. Winter, H. Williams,, and M. R. Miller. VISITING COMMITTEE'S RETORT. Tbe visiting committee reported at some length on the progress of works previously recommended, also on the sanitary condition of tie institution, which was stated to be satifactory. Several interior alterations of a minor character were recommended. The admissions during the month were 16 males and 5 females; 16 males and 4 females were discharged, and 1 female died. There were in the hospital at present 16 males and 7 females. Of outpatients during the month there were 17 fresh cases.
On the motion of Mr Williams, seconded by Mr Smith, the report was adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. The following inward correspondence was read : — From the Rev. De Berdt Hovell, stating that the vestry of St. John's parish would consider at their next meetiug the question of a Hospital Sunday. From the Rev. J. J. Lewis, regretting that the Wesleyan Church would be unable this year to give a Sunday's collection to the hospital. From the Rev. W. Nichol, stating that a collection for the hospital would be made at Havelock on the first Sunday in December. From the Rev. H. W. St. Hill, stating that the three churches in the Parish of Havelock would contribute the offertories on the 3rd of December to the building fund of the Hospital. From the Rev. E. H. Granger, stating that a collection in aid of tbe hospital would be made on the 3rd of December. From the Rev. C. L. Tuke, stating that St. Augustine's district church com mittee had postponed for the present consideration of the matter of a Hospital Sunday. From Miss Koblet v the matron at the hospital, requesting leave of absence for three weeks, inconsequence of ill-health. —Granted. MISCELLANEOUS. Some considerable discussion took place on tbe question of the Committee's claim against the Government for maintenance, but the matter was ultimately allowed to drop, with tbe understanding that the chairman would again communicate with £the Government on the subject. On the motion of Mr Miller, seconded by Mr Williams, a bonus of £50 was voted to the secretary, Mr Harker, for his services during the past year. Mr Margoliouth drew attention to the fact that Mr Banner (who was absent from the meeting) had effected the authorised additional fire insurance of £1000 with the company for which he (Mr Banner) was agent, notwithstanding that negotiations had been at the time commenced by the secretary with tbe New Zealand office, that office being the one in which the previous insurance had been effected.—lt was decided to allow the question to stand over until next meeting. Messrs John Bennett and Henry Williams were appointed as the visiting committee for the month. The Committee then, adjourned.
