A torchlight prossession and display of fireworks was given in honor of the Australian cricketing team to-nigbt. Messrs Goldsbro' and Co, (limited) report that they have sold 4700 bales at their wool auctions this week. Prices have been firmly maintained. Greasy wools have brought from 7d to 13d, and washed from 16d to 21fd, according to quality and condition. A good attenddance of home and foreign buyers continues, and very brisk competition has been experienced. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report having Gatalogued 3000 bales at their wool sales this week, and of this quantity 2400 have been sold. There has been a good attendance of buyers, and brisk competition, although no specially good lots have been offered. In sympathy with the London market lower classes of wool are easier. December 1. The election of a member for the Melbourne province in the Legislative Council has resulted in the return of Mr Ham, who beat Dr. Blaney by seven votes. Mr Coppin, who was aleo a candidate, was third.
