Tho Artillery and Rifle Volunteers parado in front of tho Athenamm at 7.30 this evening for inspection at 8 o'clock. The companies will then march out, and be exercised in battalion drill. A meeting of officers to arrange the district prizes takes place afterwards. A lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids Friendly Society will be instituted by Mr W. Bishop, District President, at Stock's Albion Hotel at V.30 this evening. The New Year's Day Friendly Societies' Fete Committee meet at the Foresters' Hall, Dickens-street, this evening at 7.30. The following auction sales take place tomorrow : —By Mr Lyndon, at 11 a.m., at his mart, general drapery, clothing, haberdashery, hosiery, fancy goods, and boots and shoes ; by Messrs Hondlcy, Lyon, and Co., at noon, at their stores, bacon, without reserve ; and by Messrs Monteith and Co., at 1.30 p.m., at the Horse Bazaar, horses, farm implements, produce, harness, saddlery, furniture, &c. Tenders for raising, removing, and making sundry alterations to tho building next the Star Hotel, Emerson-street, must be sent in lo Mr T. R. Cooper to-morrow. The cast of characters in the aesthetic opera " Patience," to be performed by the Tambour Major Opera Company at the Theatre Royal to-morrow night, is published. To-morrow is tho last day for the sale of family tickets. Mr J. T. Carr, Resident Engineer, invites ' tenders for the erection of an office at the / Napier railway station.
An abridged prospectus of the Champion Copper Lode Company (limited), Nelson, appears elsewhere. The capital of the company will be £30,000 in 30,000 £1 shares. Mr W. Gr. Motley has been appointed local broker, and will receive applications for shares and furnish all information that may be required. Messrs Magill arid Campbell, Emersonstreet, hare " % grand treat " in the shape of shilling and half-crown tables, from which hundreds of pretty and useful articles may be obtained by their patrons. The great food preservative Glacialine is on sale at Mr P. Russel's store, corner of Coote and Shakespeare-roads. Messre Neal and Close invite tho public to come and see their shilling, half-crown, three shilling, and four shilling tables. Messrs Blythe and Co. hare very good quality in children's Holland blouses for sale cheap. Woods' eucalypti's balsam is an efficacious remedy for coughs, colds, asthma, and bronchial affections of all kinds. A number of new advertisements will be found in our " Wanted " column.
