November 14.

In the House of Commons to-day the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone made his promised statement regarding the proposed settlement of affairs in Egypt. In the course of his speech he announced that negotiations are now proceeding with a view to the conclusion of an Anglo-Egyptian convention providing that Egypt shall be charged with the cost of the British oocupation, and fixing definitely the period of such occupation. In the debate which followed Sir Stafford Northcote complained that the Premier's statement waß incomplete.

A Parnellite candidate named Kenny has been elected to the vacant seat in the House of Commons for the constituency of Ennis.

In the House of Commons to-day the resolutions proposed by Mr Gladstone for the reform of the procedure of the Honse were again under consideration. After further debate the secoud rule, providing tbat motions for adjournment cannot be made before the public business has been entered upon, was voted after mitigation of the stringency of the rule had been agreed to by the Premier. Ten persons who were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the murder of six members of the Joyce family at Maantrasna, County Galway, on the Bth August last, have been brought up for trial at Dublin. The prisoners have been arraigned separately, and the trial of the first was concluded to-day, the prisoner being found guilty.
